Have you ever heard of a group of criminals plotting for five months to not steal money but print it? That is exactly what Sergio (El Professor) Marquina and his crew are all about! Money Heist accurately delivers the fact that everyone has the capability to do good or evil in a plot that has never been done before. “Each of the characters has different motivations and is neither good nor bad, and that was intentional, but there was also the idea of showing the injustices of society. Some people have a lot of money and some people struggle to reach the end of the month and so it was a way of showing that and that’s also why you have more sympathy for the robbers because they haven’t got money and when they need more they just do what the bank does – they just print some more. The good characters aren’t very good and the bad ones aren’t very bad – just like life!” NetflixĪfter my sister gave me a good recap on what I missed (I later on skimmed episodes 1-3 and the scenes that I did not see in episode 4), I was immediately immersed into this very unique story.
It was in that very moment that just like Raquel Murillo, I did not know who the good guys or bad guys were anymore – but that is the point! According to Itziar Ituño – who portrays Raquel in Money Heist, Not only was it made clear that papa didn’t raise a murderer but it was also brought to my attention that these criminals were more than their labels. The fact that Moscow – another criminal partaking in the heist – was horrified when he believed that his son killed the hostage speaks volumes. The following scene introduced me to Moscow, Denver’s father, who was having a nightmare of his son murdering Mónica since he was under the impression that Denver did indeed kill her. Right away, I was very fascinated at how Denver – a criminal – still had a sense of morality in him and cared about the life of a woman that he was holding captive.
My sister then informed me of the backstory of how Denver refused to submit to Berlin’s orders in killing Mónica but instead shot her in the leg as she allowed him to do so to fake her death.
The very first character that my eyes laid upon was Denver in the scene from episode 4 of season 1 when he was tending his hostage’s, Mónica Gaztambide, gunshot wound in her leg. It all started one night in April when I found my sister watching the show in our home theater. My love for La Casa De Papel/Money Heist is like Sergio Marquina’s love for Raquel Murillo – unplanned. I did not initially intend to become emotionally attached to the Spanish crime-drama.
